So after a rest day yesterday, today was the hardest day by far! We had 2 sessions, one long ride in the morning, followed by a motorpacing session in the afternoon. In the morning we did around 3.5hrs in rolling terrains. We were joined by Malaysian national and current OCBC rider, Loh Sea Keong. The route was used for some races as well as the Malaysian National Championships. So you could roughly imagine how demanding the route would be. They told us after 3 laps (28km per lap) we would start feeling the fatigue coming. True enough, after 3 laps I could see everyone was starting to feel tired and were ready to call it quits. But coach Fairoz told us to go one more round! So round again we went. This time the paced picked up for some reason. We were doing paceline as the finish drew closer and after awhile, the Malaysians started staying behind, and then disappeared, leaving Ryan, Travis and me doing TTT to the finish. After the ride we went for "sup lembu" and then quickly headed back to hotel to shower and rest for the afternoon session. I fell asleep and when i woke up, was rather reluctant to head out for the motorpacing session at 3.30pm (knowing it's going to be a sufferfest). But we did. Both Ryan and I agreed that the one thing we got out of this training camp is the ability to not think anymore. Our minds have gone numb. Wake up, change into our jerseys, jump onto our bikes and hit the roads.
The motorpace session was hard! I really think either my bike is not really suited for high speeds, or my aero positioning is really wrong. Travis brought his TT bike with disc wheels so he stayed at the back the whole time. Ryan and I took turns behind the motorbike. From the data I got from my Garmin, I believed Fairoz wanted us to do 1hr pacing, 30mins/10mins rest/30mins. But both times I could not complete the sets. The first one I managed 28mins before letting go, the second one only 21mins. Partly also due to fatigue from the morning session and saddle sore. Nevertheless, I was quite disappointed with myself. Well, at least I survive to fight another day!
After a hard day, it was time for dinner with Ryan, Loi, Nash and Travis. Loi came to pick us up in his car and we went to Newton Food Centre. There are many stalls with good food. We ordered stingray, oyster omelette, prawn mee, bbq chicken wings blah blah. Yum yum! After dinner Travis, Ryan and Nash wanted to have a massage so we headed to Loi's niece place "Huo Tho" for massage. Loi and I didn't want to do, so we just sat outside and waited for 1.5hrs! Then it was time for satay supper. In Melaka the satay business seems really good. Every satay stall is always packed! We just take whatever we want from the frozen area and dip it into a hot centralised pot of satay sauce. They charge by per stick 6Rm. After supper, Loi sent us back and we sank straight into bed. You could tell how tired we are by Ryan's snore... Zzz
